What we do
In short, pretty much everything.
Part of the challenge presented by Cycling Tours is needing to concern one’s self with the logistics of the trip, which can take away from the overall experience of the rides themselves. If you’re worried about not having a ride to the airport for you and your bike, you’re not going to enjoy that epic road while you’re on it.
We take all of that off your plate. Here are a few of the things we do for you:
We Pick You Up
Once you’re booked with us, send us your flight details and we’ll make sure a van is at the airport waiting for you, your bike and your travel companions. Someone will be in the Arrivals hall with your name printed on a whiteboard for easy identification. They’ll load you and your belongings safely into the vehicle and bring you to the first hotel.
We Handle Ride Nutrition
Finding energy gels in a new city can be a bit of a challenge. Before every ride, we fill up the bidons and we give you the energy gels you’ll need for the ride. If you need more, one of the follow cars will be happy to provide them. Drink refills are available as needed. If we stop to regroup, we’ll have snacks and drinks to help with recovery, or fueling for the next segment.
We Handle the Transfers
If a ride starts in one city and ends in another, all you’ll need to do is get your luggage to the front desk of the hotel we’re departing from. We’ll take it to the next destination and it’ll be at the next hotel when you arrive.
We Handle the Post-Ride Fun
As it turns out, it’s possible to have fun while not riding a bike (seriously…I checked). We’ll organize whatever you want to do post-ride, from sorting out transportation, to group dinners in local restaurants. You’re also free to wander off on your own as well, if that’s what you’d prefer. Just be ready for the next ride.
We'll Take You Shopping
Need souvenirs for the little ones? No sweat. We’ll find you local markets to shop for locally-produced jewelry, trinkets, art or clothing for you and your loved ones.
We Get You Settled
When you get to the hotel, one of us will greet you, get you checked in, and get all of your stuff up to your room(s). We’ll get you setup with your Welcome Kit (t-shirt, bidons, socks) and make sure you’ve got post-travel snacks and drinks to help you settle in.
We Keep You Safe
Every road ride is staffed by at least 4 members of our staff, some of whom will ride with you. You’ll also be joined by 2 cars, all running hazard lights on top of them, with enough bike racks for every bike. One car will follow the front group, and another will take up the rear. In the event of emergencies, we always know where the nearest hospital is.
We Entertain Your Travel Companions
Traveling with your family? Small kids? Maybe just some friends who want to take in a wine tour while you’re climbing a mountain? No sweat. We handle all of that too.
We Make the Experience Unique
While with us, you’re going to drink local coffee, eat local food, and meet local people. You’re going to see some cities, towns and landscapes that can only be categorized as ‘hidden gems’, with a World Heritage Site sprinkled in here and there. Your experience will be unique and authentic, and you’re going to love your week away from chain restaurants and coffee shops. Think espressos and chocolate croissants on the patio of a small café on a cobblestone street. Or maybe a cold beer on the rooftop terrace of a hacienda. Sounds nice doesn’t it?
We Send You On Your Way
You’ve heard of soft landings? Well, we also want to introduce you to soft takeoffs. At the end of your time with us, you’re going to be tired (we’ll be sad if that isn’t the case), so we’re going to help to get you home with minimal stress. We’ll help you pack your bike, help you checkin online, and load you, your bike and travel companions into a vehicle to take you to the airport, where we’ll guide you through that process as well. We’ll be a little sad to see you go, but we’ll put on a brave face.
We Get Your Bike Settled
While you unwind, we’ll put your bike together, set your seat height, check the gearing, align any disc brake rotors, inflate your tires and lube your chain. When you’re ready to ride, your bike will be ready to ride. If you’re technically inclined, and would prefer to do this all yourself, we won’t take offense. Oh, and that bulky bike bag you used to transport your bike? We store that for the duration of your trip, until you need it again.
We Capture The Memories
We take loads of pictures while you’re on the bike, and share those hi-res images with you every day (for the benefit of complete, compelling Strava posts, of course). Post-ride images are also captured (dinners, drinks, etc).
We Handle the Socials
We post before, during and after rides, so anyone not traveling with you can stay up to speed with your progress. We tag you in all the posts.
We Fix Stuff
Things break. We get it. Maybe you slice a tire, or break a cleat. We have relationships with shops in all of the towns/cities we go to, so emergency repairs can be made. Dave also owns a bike shop here in Querétaro, so we travel with spare tubes, tires, cleats, tape, chains, lube, etc in case you need them. While these supplies aren’t free, they are significantly discounted for EpicCycloTour participants.
Things you need to do:
-
Have a road bike in good working order. We recommend having it fully checked out prior to the trip by your favorite mechanic. Make sure brake pads and rotors are good. Tires have lots of life. Gearing works. Chain isn’t too worn.
-
Have a helmet. A helmet is mandatory for all rides.
-
Have health insurance. We’re going to take care of you as best we can, but accidents can happen. To avoid costly, out-of-pocket medical expenses, have good health insurance and provide us with all of your information
-
Let us know of any medical conditions. While you're with us, we’re going to be family. Let us know if there’s something we need to know.
-
Let us know of any food allergies or dietary restrictions.
-
Know your limits. We all have ‘off’ days. There’s no shame in packing it in and getting into a follow car. We operate 100% Judgement Free Zones at all times.
-
Have Mexican cash. Small roadside stands don’t have card readers, and a lot of markets are cash-only. It’s a good idea to have some Mexican pesos (in small denomination bills, if possible). While you can exchange US and Canadian Dollars in the airport, as well as many exchange houses in the cities/towns we’ll visit, we recommend contacting your local bank prior to your trip to arrange a currency exchange. The rates will be much better.
-
Keep the elevation in mind. You’re coming to the high desert plains of Mexico, over 2000m above sea level. That can take some getting used to, so it’s good to keep it in mind. If you want to arrive a day or two earlier, let us know so we can make arrangements for you.
-
Book your own flights. We are more than happy to help with this, but airlines are fairly notorious for insisting on dealing with the traveler themselves in the event of any difficulties, so it’s best if you make the reservation yourself. Be especially careful to ensure you book a flight on an airline that will take your bike! We’re happy to answer any and all questions you may have relating to traveling here so don’t hesitate to reach out.

Have fun! We started these tours because we were a) sick of working at a desk all day, 2) crazy about cycling and 3) keen to share these wonderful experiences with others. If you’re not enjoying yourself, that puts a significant damper on things. If, for any reason, you’re not happy with something about your trip or experience, please let me know so I can do what I can to improve the situation. If you’re happy, we’re happy.
