Sample CycloTour

Below is an example of a CycloTour with us.  While this tour is certainly available for you to select, we present it purely for inspiration.  How your time with us is spent will ultimately be up to you.

Day 1-Arrival

We pick you up at the airport, get all the bikes ready, relax a bit, have dinner, and an informal chat where we’ll cover some of the key points for the week, give you a few tips, and set out some basic expectations.  Stay in Queretaro

Day 2-San Jose Iturbide

100km/1000m

The ride has a bit of everything, from flats, to winding descents, to some ups and downs and a pretty epic 5km climb near the 75km mark.  We’ll shake out the cobwebs here.  We’ll stay in Queretaro.

Day 3-Cerro del Zamorano

130km/1800m

Let’s get to it.  This mountain is the highest peak in the state of Queretaro at 2600m above sea level.  There are some steep slopes here, which will test you on the way up, and excite you on the way down.  Stay in Bernal.

Day 4-La Puerta del Cielo

80km/2000m

If you were only going to do one ride, this is the one to do.  We leave from Bernal (where we will have stayed the night before, and return to stay after the ride).  From there, there’s a good descent, followed by some lumpy stuff and another descent to the base of the mountain.  At the 50km mark, we’ll take a short break, load up on fluids and snacks and fill our bottles and jersey pockets.  Then we’ll climb.  For 30km.  You’ll see some truly epic views across the mountain range throughout, and the road is a twisty and well-maintained.  It will make for a great day.  At the end of the ride, we load the bikes in the vans and drive back to Bernal.

Day 5-Transfer/Rest

You’ll need it.  We’ll get up, have breakfast, and then head to San Miguel de Allende, for the second part of the trip.

Day 6-La Vuelta de SMA

130km/1300m

Lots of ups and downs here, but nothing remotely daunting.  This is a loop starting and ending in San Miguel de Allende. Stay in San Miguel de Allende, a World Heritage Site, where we’ll take in some artisan markets, cafés, and rooftop patios.  The city was made for Instagram, so get ready to take some photos.

Day 7-SMA to Guanajuato

100km/1200m

We do this ride on Dave’s birthday.  Lots of flat stuff at first, followed by a few lumps, leading to some climbing at the 70km mark.  But it’s the end of this, your last ride with us, that will take your breath away.  Because the city of Guanajuato rests in a valley, we have a twisty descent that lasts about 12km.  That’s fun, but what’s even better is the view that you’ll enjoy along the way.  One of Guanajuato’s defining characteristics is that its houses are painted all sorts of bright, vibrant colors (think reds, greens, pinks, yellows, blues, purples, oranges).  Combine this with some domed churches and other colonial architecture, and the word ‘wow’ is likely to escape your lips more than a few times.  Just try to watch the road.

We’ll spend the night in Guanajuato before heading back to Queretaro.

Day 8-Rest/Packing

If you’re looking to leave on this day, you’re certainly free to do so, but please let us know beforehand so that we can get your bike bag out of storage and make sure it’s ready in Guanajuato so that we can pack your bike.

If you’re staying for another day, we’ll be heading to the center of Queretaro for a bit of dining, shopping and walking around.  It’s a beautiful city centre, and we’ll send you off with some fine food and drink on our last night together.  On the next day, we'll pack up your bike and bring you to the airport.
